The 2024 Kookaburra 1kg silver coin from Australia’s Perth Mint.
The Australian Silver Kookaburra series is a collection of silver bullion coins that have been minted by the Perth Mint since 1990. These coins have become increasingly popular with collectors due to their beautiful designs that showcase the wildlife of Australia.
Each year, the Perth Mint releases a new design featuring a depiction of a kookaburra, the 2024 coin features a kookaburra flying across a canyon with a snake in its talons. Snakes are a surprising part of a kookaburra’s diet and this one is about to suffer the unhappy future of being ‘softened’ against a rock or hard tree before being eaten whole.
The design is the work of artist Sean Rogers, who has created several of the previous designs in the series. The reverse also features the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA’, as well as the coin’s weight, purity, 2024 year-date, and a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. On the obverse side of the coin, you will find the Dan Thorne design of King Charles III.
